Troubleshooting VAN 128 (Vanguard Error)

There are several factors that may cause the VAN 128 error to appear. If this error is preventing you from playing, these methods may help you get back in the game. Some of them are specific to certain software that may be on your computer, so give the whole list a look before you begin. 

Confirm Device Is in a Trusted/Secured State

Vanguard checks for a few settings to make sure your computer is in a trusted/secured state—namely, that Test Signing Mode is disabled and that you're using Driver Signing Enforcement.

Follow these directions to restore these two settings to a more secure state:

1. Press the Windows key.
2. Type cmd.
3. Select Run as administrator in the right column.
4. Enter the following two commands exactly as written below, while pressing Enter after each command:
   • bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING off
   • bcdedit /set nointegritychecks OFF
5. Restart your computer.

Disable Debug Memory Dump

In some cases, an issue with Window's debugging default settings may cause this error. 

Try changing these settings through the following steps:

1. Press the Windows key.
2. Type sysdm.cpl, then press Enter.
3. Go to the Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery > Settings.
4. Change the Write debugging information dropdown to (none).
5. Restart your computer.

Fasoo Software

If you're stuck in a loop where you're reconnecting forever without seeing an error message, Fasoo software may be responsible. You can remove it to fix the problem:

1. Press the Windows key.
2. Type Control Panel, then select Control Panel when it appears.
3. Go to Programs > Programs and features.
4. Find the publisher "fasoo.com".
5. Select more >Uninstall.
6. Restart your computer.

CryptoPro Cloud CSP

This error can also occur if you have CryptoPro Cloud CSP installed on your computer, which commonly shows as cpinit.exe in your Task Manager's process list.

Follow these steps to disable CryptoPro:

1. Press the Windows key.
2. Type Control Panel, then select Control Panel when it appears.
3. Go to Programs → Programs and features.
4. Select CryptoPro Cloud CSP from the list and click Change.
5. A pop-up window will appear.
6. Click Next.
7. Select Change.
8. Select Compatibility from the list and check "This component will be unavailable".
9. Restart your computer.
10. If disabling the program does not solve the problem, you will have to uninstall this software from your computer.
11. This can be done through the same Programs and components tab in your Control Panel.
